SoDMA Commissioner Meets FAO Representative on Flood Preparedness and Humanitarian Needs

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), H.E. Mahmoud Moallim, accompanied by the Ministers of Humanitarian Affairs and Women’s Affairs of South West State, met with the FAO Country Director for Somalia, Mr. Eric Peterschmitt, to discuss the humanitarian situation, preparedness for Super El Niño and support for communities continuing to face humanitarian needs.
The meeting focused on strengthening preparedness and accelerating efforts to prevent and mitigate flooding, particularly through reinforcing river defenses and securing vulnerable sections along waterways.
Commissioner Mahmoud briefed the FAO Representative on his recent visit to Hiiraan, one of the areas most vulnerable to flooding, and called for coordinated efforts to protect lives and livelihoods.
The discussions underscored the importance of closer coordination between government institutions and humanitarian partners to strengthen disaster preparedness, reduce flood risks and support communities affected by humanitarian challenges.
