Information Minister Chairs Meeting on Strengthening Federal and State Media Cooperation

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Abdulfatah Qasim Mahmoud, on Tuesday chaired a meeting of Information Ministers from the Federal Government, Federal Member States and Banadir Regional Administration as part of the second forum of the Somali Media Relations Strategy 2026.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation and coordination among the country’s Information Ministries. Discussions covered the consultation process on the Culture Strategy, the Tourism Policy and Procedures, the draft regulation on media registration and licensing, the Film Agency Policy, strengthening unified government messaging, cooperation between the Federal Government and Federal Member States in the information sector, and procedures for coordinating training between the Federal Ministry and state-level Information Ministries.
Minister H.E. Abdulfatah Qasim Mahmoud said the Federal Government attaches particular importance to establishing a sustainable framework to strengthen cooperation between the federal and state levels, particularly in modernizing the media sector, advancing government communications, culture and tourism, sharing information, developing professional skills and adapting to modern media developments.
Information Ministers from the Federal Member States and representatives of the Banadir Regional Administration presented their views, regional challenges and recommendations on improving cooperation and strengthening the Somali media sector.
The meeting forms part of the second forum of the Somali Media Relations Strategy 2026, which seeks to strengthen consultation, cooperation and the development of a shared direction for the future of Somalia’s media sector.
