Mogadishu (SONNA): The spirit of Somalia’s Independence and Unity Week came alive on Saturday evening in Shangani District, where hundreds of citizens gathered for a vibrant public event celebrating the nation’s history, unity, and shared aspirations.
The event was attended by members of the National Organizing Committee for the 66th Independence and Unification Day celebrations, led by the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, H.E. Ali Yusuf Hosh.
Featuring cultural performances, patriotic displays, and reflections on Somalia’s liberation struggle, the gathering highlighted the sacrifices made by the country’s independence heroes and underscored the importance of preserving national unity.
Officials emphasized that the week-long celebrations are intended to strengthen patriotism, promote social cohesion, and honor the generations whose sacrifices secured Somalia’s freedom and sovereignty.
As Somalia marks the 66th anniversary of its Independence and Unification, similar events continue to take place across the country, bringing communities together in celebration of the nation’s enduring identity and aspirations for a prosperous future.
