Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Somali Police Force has strongly condemned and expressed deep concern over an attack carried out today by armed militants who launched an assault on a police checkpoint in the Heliwaa District of Mogadishu, reportedly using heavy weapons.
According to the Police, the assailants also targeted the Central Tax Protection Unit, a weapons-free facility, and used heavy weaponry against police equipment stationed at the site.
The Police stated that the attackers deliberately targeted law enforcement facilities, causing damage to public assets used to serve the Somali people. Authorities said the incident demonstrates the perpetrators’ intent to undermine public security and stability.
The attack also caused damage to civilian homes and business premises, endangering the lives and property of local residents.
The Somali Police Force said its officers responded to the incident in a professional and responsible manner.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into the attack, and authorities pledged that all individuals involved will be brought to justice.
The Somali Police reiterated their commitment to taking legal action against anyone responsible for such acts and similar offenses that threaten public safety.
