MOGADISHU, SOMALIA (SONNA) — The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hon. Hassan Maalim Mohamud, received the European Union (EU) Ambassador and the executive leadership of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at his office today. The high-level consultation focused primarily on strengthening multilateral cooperation to implement the newly enacted Justice Sector Strategy 2025–2029, alongside establishing scalable mechanisms to expand the accessibility of formal legal services across the nation.
During the structural deliberations, Minister Mohamud expressed formal state appreciation to the European Union for its continuous financial and technical support aimed at rebuilding the country’s judicial infrastructure. The Minister also highly praised the UNDP for its operational role in executing the Joint Justice and Corrections Programme (JJCP). The initiative serves as a critical asset for modernizing and strengthening judicial, penal, and rehabilitative services throughout Somalia, ensuring they align with international human rights baselines.
The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs reaffirmed its programmatic commitment to establishing transparent, fair, and accessible judicial systems. By coordinating directly with the EU and international development partners, the Federal Government aims to cultivate public trust, formalize land and commercial dispute resolution mechanisms, and provide a secure domestic environment necessary for sustainable national stabilization and economic progress.
