GENEVA (SONNA) – The Director General of the National Centre for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (Tubsan), Mr. Ali Yasin Gurbe, participated in a high-level meeting of the Governing Board of the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF), held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The meeting brought together senior representatives from Europe, Africa, Japan, and the Arab world to discuss strategies for preventing violent extremism in countries facing governance and security challenges.
During the meeting, members agreed that Somalia would assume the regional representation role previously held by Kenya on the GCERF Governing Board. In this capacity, Somalia will represent Somalia, Kenya, and Mozambique within the organization.
Mr. Ali Yasin Gurbe succeeds Mr. Kibiego Rotich, Director General of Kenya’s National Counter Terrorism Centre, as the representative of the three countries on the GCERF Governing Board.
The development marks a significant step for Somalia, as the Federal Government and the National Centre for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism will play a greater role in international discussions and decision-making on countering violent extremism and terrorism prevention in East Africa.
The next GCERF Governing Board meeting is scheduled to take place in Tokyo, Japan.
