MOGADISHU, SOMALIA (SONNA) — The 2nd Basic Officers Course has officially commenced at the General Dhagabadan Training Centre in Mogadishu, initiating a structured phase of institutional capacity-building for the next generation of military command. A total of 52 trainees selected from various operational units of the Somali National Army are participating in the intensive professionalization program, which is designed to enhance tactical readiness and structural governance across the armed forces.
The specialized curriculum is delivered directly by personnel from the European Union Training Mission in Somalia Training Team. The instructional matrix balances tactical field proficiency with international legal governance, covering core subjects such as junior-level Leadership, Topography, Tactical Ground Movements, and advanced Shooting Drills. To prepare officers for contemporary security environments, the program places heavy emphasis on Fighting in Built-Up Areas, alongside military Logistics and International Humanitarian Law.
This comprehensive training framework implemented by EUTM-S targets the long-term optimization of command structures within the national forces. By upgrading the tactical capabilities and leadership proficiency of these 52 officers, the joint initiative systematically elevates the operational effectiveness and professional readiness of the Somali National Army as it assumes full responsibility for the country’s sovereign security perimeters.
