MOSCOW, Russia, SONNA)-Somalia’s State Minister for Defence, Omar Ali Abdi, held talks with Russian Deputy Minister of Defence Vasily Osmakov during an official visit to Moscow, as the two countries explored ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the defense sector.
According to Somalia’s Ministry of Defence, the meeting focused on issues of mutual interest, particularly opportunities to enhance defense collaboration between the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Russian Federation.
The two officials emphasized the importance of maintaining constructive dialogue and expressed a shared commitment to advancing and deepening defense relations between their respective countries.
The discussions come as Somalia continues to expand its international partnerships in support of security sector development and efforts to combat terrorism and strengthen national defense capabilities.
Russia has also been among the countries providing humanitarian assistance to Somalia, supporting relief efforts for communities affected by recurring drought and other humanitarian challenges.
The meeting reflects growing engagement between Mogadishu and Moscow as both sides seek to broaden cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
