Mogadishu (SONNA): The Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Federal Government of Somalia has concluded the second phase of consultations for the National Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) Plan.
This phase was held in Laascaanood in the Northeast State and in Gaalkacyo, bringing together young people and key stakeholders.
The completion of this phase marks an important step toward contextualizing the Youth, Peace and Security agenda—rooted in United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250—into Somalia’s realities and the actual needs of Somali youth.
The consultations underscored that young people are not only beneficiaries but also key decision-makers who can play a meaningful role in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, reconciliation, civic engagement, social cohesion, recovery, and national stability. Their perspectives and recommendations are being integrated into the development of the National YPS Plan.
The discussions brought together youth and stakeholders to explore the role of young people in peacebuilding, reconciliation, local stability, job creation, civic participation, social integration, community security, and good governance at both local and national levels.
