Mogadishu (SONNA) — The Independent National Human Rights Commission (INHRC) has launched a week-long workshop aimed at strengthening its capacity to protect and promote human rights across Somalia.
The training, held in Mogadishu, brings together Commission members and experts from the United Nations, as well as regional human rights institutions, to enhance institutional capacity and support the Commission in fulfilling its national mandate.
Chairperson Dr. Maryam Qasim described the workshop as a critical step toward building an effective and independent institution capable of advancing justice, accountability, and public trust. She also expressed appreciation to the United Nations, particularly the Human Rights Protection Group, for their technical support and continued collaboration.
The training focuses on international human rights law, humanitarian law, monitoring and investigation of violations, and key issues such as conflict-related abuses, children involved in armed conflict, and oversight of detention facilities.
