Addis Ababa(SONNA)-Minister of Family Affairs and Human Rights Development of the Federal Government of Somalia on Tuesday announced that the country has formally ratified the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, in a major step toward strengthening protections for children’s rights.
The instrument of ratification was submitted to the African Union during a ceremony at its headquarters in Addis Ababa. The event was presided over by Moussa Mohamed Omar and attended by Hajer Gueldich.
Al-Makhzoumi said the move underscores Somalia’s commitment to advancing child welfare, fulfilling its regional and international obligations, and strengthening national systems to safeguard the rights and well-being of every Somali child.
