Canberra, (SONNA) — The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Australia, Ambassador Dr. Faysal Ahmed Salad, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency Sam Mostyn, Governor-General of Australia.
The ceremony marks a historic milestone in strengthening diplomatic relations between Somalia and Australia. During the occasion, Ambassador Dr. Faysal underscored the importance of deepening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across key sectors.
Key issues discussed included the critical role of remittance services in Somalia’s economy and the need to facilitate licensing and banking access for Money Services Businesses (MSBs) operating in Australia. The talks also covered enhancing cooperation in education and trade to promote sustainable growth and development.
Additionally, the Ambassador raised the importance of easing travel arrangements, including consideration of Visa on Arrival for Somali passport holders—particularly diplomatic and service passport holders—and highlighted the vital role of the Somali diaspora in Australia as a bridge between the two nations.
Ambassador Dr. Faysal expressed his commitment to working closely with the Australian Government and all partners to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand mutually beneficial cooperation.
