ADDIS ABABA (SONNA) — The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Abdisalam Ali, attended the opening ceremony of the 48th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) on Wednesday. The high-level gathering is currently underway at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa.
This session serves as a critical preparatory meeting, convening Foreign Ministers from across the continent prior to the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government. The upcoming summit is scheduled to take place from February 14 to 15, 2026.
The Ministers are tasked with reviewing a comprehensive agenda. Key items under deliberation include the report of the 51st Session of the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) and the preparations for upcoming elections and appointments within AU organs. Furthermore, the council is assessing the African Union’s strategic participation in the G20 and evaluating the progress made regarding the SACA process.
