Mogadishu, SONNA — The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Maryama Mohamed Hussein, attended an official ceremony marking the launch of the Somali Labor Code (Law No. 36 of 2024), organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. The event brought together Members of Parliament, ministers from the Federal Government of Somalia and regional states, as well as other senior officials and dignitaries.
During the ceremony, officials outlined the objectives of the Labor Code and its critical role in regulating labor relations, safeguarding workers’ rights, and clearly defining the obligations of employers. Speakers emphasized that the new law represents a major step toward strengthening labor governance and reflects ongoing efforts to establish systems grounded in justice, transparency, and the rule of law.
Dr. Maryama Mohamed Hussein commended the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs for its efforts in approving and launching the Labor Code, describing it as a significant milestone for the labor sector. She also praised the collective role of relevant institutions in ensuring the effective implementation of the law, noting its importance in promoting fair labor practices and social protection.
The launch of the Somali Labor Code is expected to enhance legal clarity in employment relations and contribute to improved working conditions and institutional accountability across the country.
