Mogadishu, SONNA — The Minister of Defence of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, met today with the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Francesca Di Mauro, to discuss ongoing support for the Somali National Army (SNA) and highlight recently completed projects aimed at strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.
The meeting, held with the Commander of the Somali National Army, Gen. Odowa Yusuf Rage, provided an opportunity for the Minister to be briefed on the EU’s multifaceted support for the SNA, including medical services, technical assistance, and logistical backing designed to enhance the operational readiness and capacity of Somali forces.
The engagement coincided with the handover of critical equipment and vehicles, as well as the completion of major infrastructure projects. These include the construction of the Central Communications Center at Villa Baidoa and the 27th Sector Hospital of the Somali National Army in Bulo Burde, both of which are expected to significantly improve operational efficiency and healthcare support for military personnel.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Commander of the Joint Operations Centre (JOCC), Major General Mohamed Bariise, representatives from the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM-S), the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), and senior officers of the Somali National Army.
The discussions reinforced the ongoing partnership between Somalia and the European Union in strengthening national security institutions and underscored the shared commitment to building a professional and capable Somali military.
