MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Council of Ministers of the Federal Republic of Somalia has unanimously approved the appointment of Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud as the new Commander of the Somali National Army (SNA). The decision was reached during the Cabinet’s weekly session in Mogadishu, marking a major leadership transition within the country’s defense establishment.
Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud succeeds Major General Odowa Yusuf Raghe, who has led the army during critical phases of the liberation campaigns. The government stated that this change in command is part of a broader strategy to accelerate the modernization of the armed forces and to inject fresh tactical direction into the ongoing national security operations.
The appointment comes at a crucial time as the Somali National Army continues to wage high-intensity offensives against Khawaarij terror networks across central and southern Somalia. Defense officials have expressed high confidence in the new commander’s ability to sustain the battlefield momentum achieved under his predecessor while introducing advanced logistical and operational strategies.
The Federal Government has tasked Brigadier General Mohamud with the dual responsibility of professionalizing the military ranks and ensuring the total eradication of insurgent threats. His leadership is expected to focus heavily on streamlining command structures and enhancing the combat readiness of the troops as they prepare for the next phase of the liberation war.
