Doha, (SONNA) — The Minister of Defence of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, who is on an official working visit to Doha, today attended the opening of DIMDEX 2026, the ninth edition of the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference, formally inaugurated under the patronage of the Emir of the State of Qatar, H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
During his visit, Minister Fiqi will sign a defence cooperation agreement between the Federal Government of Somalia and the State of Qatar, aimed at strengthening bilateral defence ties, military training cooperation, and broader security collaboration.
DIMDEX 2026, hosted by the Qatar Armed Forces, is a leading international platform for maritime defence and security, showcasing advanced technologies and military equipment. The Minister’s participation reflects Somalia’s ongoing efforts to enhance the capabilities of the Somali National Armed Forces and to expand defence and security partnerships internationally.
The Minister is accompanied by the Commander of the Somali National Army, Major General Odowaa Yusuf Rageh; the Commander of the Navy and Coast Guard, Brigadier General Abdiwahab Abdullahi Omar; senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the Somali National Army Command; and representatives from the Embassy of Somalia in Qatar.
