Kismayo, (SONNA) — A delegation led by the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, arrived on Tuesday in Kismayo, the capital of Lower Jubba region, to assess the impact of the ongoing drought affecting the country.
The delegation includes representatives from humanitarian organizations as well as the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, George Conway.
During the visit, the delegation is expected to tour several internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in areas surrounding Kismayo to evaluate the living conditions and humanitarian challenges facing displaced families.
The assessment comes as Somalia continues to grapple with the effects of prolonged drought, which has displaced thousands of families and heightened humanitarian needs across several regions.
