MOGADISHU, Somalia – The People’s Republic of China has forcefully reaffirmed its commitment to the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia following an urgent diplomatic consultation held in Mogadishu. H.E. Ambassador Wang Yu held a telephone discussion with Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Abdisalam Dhaay, to address the escalating diplomatic tensions concerning the unity of the Somali nation.
During the high-level exchange, Ambassador Wang conveyed Beijing’s absolute support for Somalia’s sovereignty and national unity. The Ambassador made it clear that China views the preservation of Somalia’s borders as a fundamental imperative, aligning with the principles of international law. This reassurance comes at a critical moment, serving as a powerful diplomatic shield against recent external attempts to legitimize separatist movements within the Horn of Africa.
A central theme of the discussion was the mutual threat posed by separatist agendas. Both diplomats expressed “strong joint opposition to secessionism,” categorizing it as a danger that undermines the “core interests” of both nations.
