Mogadishu (SONNA): The Second Deputy Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Hon. Abdullahi Omar Abshirow participated in the Benadir Regional Local Council elections, casting his vote in Dharkenley District.
Hon. Abshirow congratulated the Somali people—particularly residents of the capital—who turned out in large numbers to vote in the local council elections. He described the day as historic and a tangible step toward restoring the people’s right to decide their own future. He noted that the process marks the beginning of nationwide elections based on the “one person, one vote” system, a model not implemented in Somalia for more than half a century.
The Second Deputy Speaker also called on residents of Mogadishu to demonstrate unity and solidarity, and to stand together against anything that could undermine the security and stability of the capital. He concluded by commending the security forces across their various branches, as well as the election officials on duty, for ensuring that citizens were able to cast their votes peacefully and transparently. He further praised the people of the capital for their resilience and continued support for the security forces.
