The Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development held a high-level meeting today in Mogadishu with officials from UN Women, reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality across Somalia.
The meeting was led by the Minister of Family and Human Rights Development, H.E. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, accompanied by Director General Mohamed Bashir Omar. The UN Women delegation was headed by Ms. Rukia Mohamed, Head of Programmes.
Discussions centred on enhancing collaboration to scale up ongoing and emerging gender-related initiatives, including programmes aimed at strengthening women’s participation, protection, and socio-economic empowerment. Both sides explored new areas for partnership that align with national priorities and the Ministry’s reform agenda.
Minister Al-Makhzoumi expressed her gratitude to UN Women for their continued support, noting that the organisation’s technical and strategic partnership has been vital to the Ministry’s progress. The UN Women delegation commended the Ministry’s rapid advancements and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation.
This engagement forms part of broader efforts by the Ministry to accelerate results through strong collaboration with national and international partners, ensuring a coordinated and impactful approach to women’s empowerment and gender equality in Somalia.
