Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Third National Conference of Somali Scholars is set to open shortly in Mogadishu, organized by the Federal Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs.
More than 300 Somali scholars from around the world, government officials, and invited dignitaries are attending the conference. Over the course of the event, participants will discuss key issues including national unity and the role of religious leaders in educating the public on the value and necessity of cohesion among Somali communities.
Ibrahim Adan Nadaara, the Director General of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, said the annual gathering provides a platform for Somali scholars to deliberate on matters crucial to the unity of the nation.
Several scholars attending the conference spoke to the National Media:
Sheikh Abdirahman Sheikh Ibrahim Shakuul: “It is never permissible for brothers to shed each other’s blood over meaningless disputes.”
Sheikh Mustafa and Sheikh Mohamed Dulmidiid: “Scholars must engage with social media platforms to raise awareness and counter tribal incitement.”
Sheikh Usuuli: “This year’s conference comes at a critical moment to help preserve the unity of our society.”
Sheikh Abdirahman Sheikh Omar Sheikh Ahmed Diinle: “Somali scholars are deeply saddened to see our people harming one another due to clan conflicts.”
The conference comes as Somali scholars have been leading awareness campaigns in Mogadishu and across the regions to reduce inter-clan tensions and promote peaceful coexistence. It forms part of the wider efforts aimed at strengthening unity and social harmony nationwide.
