Mogadishu (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has appointed MP Aweys Mohamed Omar as the Presidential Special Envoy for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE).
President Hassan Sheikh urged the new envoy to serve the nation with integrity, competence, and a strong sense of national responsibility. In his new role, Envoy Aweys Mohamed Omar will focus on:
- Strengthening security and reinforcing state institutions
- Preventing extremism and combating violent extremist ideologies
- Enhancing cooperation between communities and security institutions
- Developing and advancing national P/CVE policies
MP Aweys Mohamed Omar brings extensive experience from his work across security institutions, public policy, and counter-extremism initiatives — expertise that positions him well to fulfill the mandate entrusted to him by the President.
