Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Hassan Aden, today received the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, Alper Aktaş, at his office for a productive meeting aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in fisheries and the country’s blue economy.
The discussions focused on boosting collaboration in sustainable fisheries management, implementing previous partnership agreements, and improving the skills and knowledge of Somali fishers. Türkiye pledged high-level training programs on modern fishing techniques and support for university-level education (Master’s degrees) to develop Somali experts in blue economy management and marine resource utilization.
Minister Ahmed Hassan Aden thanked the Turkish government for its continued technical assistance and support in developing Somalia’s fisheries sector, describing the meeting as successful and crucial for strengthening bilateral ties. Ambassador Alper Aktaş reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to supporting Somalia through training, education, and programs to enhance marine resource management, noting that Ankara is ready to further expand cooperation between the two countries.
