LUBUMBASHI, DRC (SONNA) – The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Tanzania and the East African Community (EAC), Ilyas Ali Hassan, leading a delegation, was warmly welcomed today in Lubumbashi, the capital of Haut-Katanga Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The welcoming party at the airport included dignitaries such as the Speaker of the Haut-Katanga Provincial Parliament, Hon. Michel Kabwe Mwamba, the Mayor of Lubumbashi, Hon. Patrick Afwimbi Mumamba, and members of the local Somali community.
Ambassador Ilyas is undertaking a working visit to the DRC to assess the situation of the Somali diaspora residing in the country. Following meetings with the Somali community in Kinshasa, he is scheduled to hold various meetings with the Somali community in Lubumbashi as well.
Addressing the welcoming party and media, the Ambassador expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm reception extended by the DRC government and the Somali community in Lubumbashi. The visit underscores Somalia’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties and supporting its citizens across the region.
