๐๐๐๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐๐๐๐, (SONNA) โ H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud delivered the opening address at the ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ (๐๐๐๐), reaffirming Somaliaโs commitment to climate action and resilience. He stressed that Somalia is ready to lead with concrete action and partnerships.
In his remarks, the President outlined key milestones, the submission of ๐๐๐ ๐.๐ (first in East Africa), the launch of the ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ง ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ to plant 10M trees, a $๐๐๐ ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ญ ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ง ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ, and the establishment of the National Climate Fund. He also noted the $๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ partnership for 2024, ongoing support from ๐๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐ญ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ ๐ฎ๐ง๐, and opportunities created by HIPC debt relief.
President Hassan Sheikh was joined by a high level delegation including Deputy Prime Minister H.E Salah Ahmed Jama, Minister of Environment and Climate Change H.E. Lt. Gen. Bashir Mohamed Jama, Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali (Dhaay), Minister of Finance H.E. Bihi Iman Egeh Somalia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Abdullahi Warfa, and other senior officials, reflecting Somaliaโs united front on climate leadership.
