Mogadishu, Somalia – The leadership of the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism of Somalia has extended its profound condolences following the passing of the esteemed artist, Khadija Mohamud Yusuf, widely known as Khadija Qalanjo. Her death in Hargeisa has deeply saddened the Somali artistic community and the public.
The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Daa’ud Aweis Jama, Deputy Minister Abdirahman Yusuf Omar Al-Adaala, and Director-General Abdullahi Hayir Dua’ale jointly offered their heartfelt sympathies to her family, her children, the artistic community, and the entire Somali nation. Khadija Qalanjo was a cherished member of the national Waaberi Band and was celebrated for her significant role in the advancement of Somali art, literature, and culture. She holds a unique place in history as one of the pioneering artists whose traditional songs were selected to be featured on Somali National Television during its inauguration in October 1983.
