Mogadishu, Somalia — The nation is celebrating a historic milestone in its educational journey following the official release of the Grade 12 national examination results for the 2024-2025 academic year. The announcement by the Ministry of Education details a record-breaking performance, highlighting the effectiveness of ongoing educational reforms and the dedication of students and teachers across the country.

This year’s examinations saw a total of 37,052 students sit for the crucial test. A comprehensive analysis of the results reveals a remarkable national pass rate of 93.8%, a figure that represents a monumental achievement for a country committed to rebuilding its educational infrastructure after decades of instability. In a clear and concise breakdown, officials confirmed that 34,742 students successfully passed the examination, while 2,310 did not succeed.

The impressive results are a clear outcome of the government’s steadfast policy on educational centralization, a strategy aimed at standardizing learning outcomes and combating academic corruption. Officials believe this concerted effort has been instrumental in creating a more unified and credible education system, which has been crucial in securing these positive results.

Regional Performance and Academic Excellence

The results provide a fascinating look at academic performance across the federal states. The Banadir region, as the nation’s most populous area, recorded the highest turnout with 23,674 students participating in the exams. This significant number underscores its central position in the national education system.

Other regions also demonstrated remarkable strides. Data shows strong participation and positive results from Southwest (5,904 students), Galmudug (3,223 students), and Hirshabelle (2,974 students). Jubaland and Khatumo also saw strong turnouts, with 2,097 and 1,520 students, respectively. These figures point to a growing confidence in the national examination system and the expansion of educational opportunities beyond the capital.

Recognizing the Nation’s Top Scholars

The announcement also celebrated the top individual performers who achieved exceptional results. The Ministry of Education named Caaisha Aadan Ugaas Xirsi, a student from the SOS School in the Banadir region, as the top student in the nation. She secured an impressive score of 91.99%, an inspiring accomplishment that exemplifies the high potential of Somali youth. While the full list of top students is yet to be made public, the recognition of this year’s highest achievers serves as a powerful motivator for the entire academic community.

The Ministry has affirmed its commitment to continue supporting educational institutions and ensuring that these students are well-prepared for their next academic steps. These results are not merely numbers; they represent the hard-won achievements of a generation determined to forge a brighter future through learning and innovation. The success of this year’s national exams highlights the country’s collective progress and fuels hope for a prosperous and educated future.
