Somali Military Court Executes Three Al-Shabaab Convicts for Terrorist Acts

Mogadishu, Somalia – A military court in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, today executed three individuals convicted of belonging to the al-Shabaab terrorist organization. The executions by firing squad were carried out after the men were found guilty of carrying out deadly attacks in the capital and the Lower Shabelle region.

The executed men were identified as Qudama Hamza Yusuf, Abdi Hassan Roble, and Ibrahim Omar Shama’un. According to a statement from state media, the trio was sentenced for their direct involvement in a series of targeted killings and bombings that resulted in both civilian and military casualties. Their convictions were handed down by the military court of the Armed Forces, which has been at the forefront of the government’s efforts to prosecute those linked to terrorism.

This action marks a continuation of the Federal Government’s firm stance against al-Shabaab’s ongoing insurgency. These executions follow a similar action on Monday, August 11, 2025, when two Somali soldiers were executed for conspiring with al-Shabaab to assassinate a commander. In total, six al-Shabaab-linked individuals have been executed in Somalia this month alone, showcasing a renewed and rigorous push to hold perpetrators of violence accountable.

The Somali government, in coordination with its international partners and local forces, continues to accelerate its large-scale military operations against the militant group. These efforts aim to fully liberate the country from extremist groups and ensure lasting peace and security for all Somali citizens.
