NOUAKCHOTT, MAURITANIA (SONNA) — The Federal Republic of Somalia has further expanded its diplomatic footprint across the Arab League and North Africa as H.E. Ambassador Yusuf Ahmed Hassan (Yusuf Jeego) officially presented copies of his Letters of Credence to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania today. Ambassador Yusuf, who serves as Somalia’s resident Ambassador to Algeria and non-resident envoy to Mauritania, was received in the Mauritanian capital by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, H.E. Mohamed Salem Merzoug.
The diplomatic ceremony marks a deliberate expansion of Mogadishu’s foreign policy architecture, aimed at reinforcing strategic alliances with key partners across the Maghreb region. During their bilateral session, Ambassador Yusuf and Minister Merzoug engaged in high-level discussions aimed at strengthening political alignment and advancing mutual cooperation across economic and educational sectors. The meeting re-established the historic ties between the two nations, providing a renewed framework for shared interests on the African Union and international stages.
