Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, officially closed a training program for officers, deputy officers, and units of the Somali National Army’s elite Gorgor forces. The troops had completed advanced military training both in Turkey and at the Turkish military training academy in Somalia (TurkSom).
In his remarks, Prime Minister Hamza emphasized the government’s commitment to building a professional national army equipped with modern skills and strong leadership, as a foundation for achieving effective statehood.
“The Somali National Army is the backbone of a strong and self-reliant state,” said the Prime Minister. “You must shoulder this responsibility and prepare yourselves to liberate our nation from enemies and restore the dignity, unity, and honor of the Somali people.”
He underscored that defending the country and securing its freedom remains the army’s top priority, and that every Somali soldier holds a position of great respect and national importance.
The Prime Minister also thanked the Republic of Türkiye—its people and government—for their consistent support and solidarity with Somalia, especially in the area of military cooperation and capacity building.
PM Hamza concluded by encouraging the newly trained soldiers to play a vital role in the ongoing national efforts to combat extremist groups and ensure lasting peace and security across Somalia.
