Mogadishu, SONNA – An AUSSOM military helicopter crashed this morning while attempting to land at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu. The aircraft, which had taken off from Balidoogle, was carrying eight personnel at the time of the incident. Emergency response teams quickly contained a fire that broke out following the crash, and airport operations remain uninterrupted.

Authorities are currently assessing the situation, and no official information has yet been released regarding the condition of the individuals on board. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The Director of the Somali Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Ahmed Macalin Hassan, spoke to State Media shortly after the incident. He confirmed that the fire has been fully extinguished and that the airport has resumed normal operations.

“The situation is under control. The runway is clear and fully operational—flights can land and take off as usual,” said Director Ahmed Macalin.

While the crash has raised concerns, officials have reassured the public that emergency protocols were swiftly and effectively implemented, preventing further damage and ensuring the safety of other passengers and airport staff.

The Federal Government and aviation authorities are expected to release further updates as more information becomes available regarding the cause of the crash and the status of the personnel on board.
