Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, has emphasized the critical role of the blue economy in shaping Somalia’s economic future. Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy’s new headquarters, the Prime Minister highlighted the sea as Somalia’s greatest untapped asset.
“This ministry is among the most vital in our national development agenda, as much of our country’s wealth lies in the ocean,” said Prime Minister Hamza.
He stressed that Somalia’s future prosperity will be driven by the sustainable development of its marine resources, and the establishment of a modern, well-equipped facility for the ministry marks a major step forward.
“The blue economy holds immense potential for Somalia. This is where the foundation of a thriving, self-reliant Somalia begins – harnessing our marine production and hidden natural wealth,” he stated.
Prime Minister Hamza also called on Somali citizens to settle in coastal areas, noting that the government will invest in major road infrastructure to connect these regions, enabling better access to and utilization of marine resources.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to transform Somalia’s economy through sustainable exploitation of its coastal and maritime assets.
