Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Ministry of Ports and Marine Transport of the Federal Government of Somalia has officially announced the start of the annual monsoon (bad-xiran) season, warning of strong winds and dangerous sea conditions across the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden.
The monsoon period, which runs from 26 May to 15 September 2025, is expected to bring high waves and powerful gusts, posing serious risks to maritime activity. The Ministry has advised all stakeholders—including traders, fishermen, and vessel owners—to exercise extreme caution, particularly small boats and vessels under 1,500 metric tons.
The public has also been strongly warned against swimming in the sea during this period due to life-threatening conditions.
The Ministry stressed that the alert aims to protect lives and property, urging all affected parties to take the warning seriously and act responsibly.
