Mogadishu, SONNA — The Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Ahmed Hassan Adan, held a high-level bilateral meeting today with the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Somalia, Mr. Alper Aktaş, focused on enhancing strategic cooperation in the field of fisheries and the blue economy.
During the meeting held in Mogadishu, both sides discussed a broad range of priorities aimed at sustainable development of Somalia’s marine resources. Key areas of focus included sustainable fisheries management, the expansion of fish farming (aquaculture), human resource capacity building, and creating an enabling environment for Turkish investment in fish processing and coastal infrastructure.
Minister Ahmed Hassan Adan welcomed Turkey’s continued support and emphasized Somalia’s vast potential for growth in the blue economy. He pointed to opportunities for Turkish investors to participate in value-added projects such as seafood processing, cold storage facilities, and port infrastructure that would benefit both nations.
Ambassador Alper Aktaş reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to deepening ties with Somalia and supporting efforts to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing through technical collaboration, information exchange, and enforcement training.
Both sides agreed to formalize a roadmap for concrete projects in fisheries and marine development, ensuring long-term economic sustainability and the responsible use of Somalia’s marine resources.
The meeting concluded with mutual pledges to enhance collaboration, share expertise, and prioritize investments that align with the sustainable blue economy vision of the Federal Government of Somalia.
