Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Dr. Ali Haji Aden, and Minister of Women and Human Rights Development, Amb. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, joined the Deputy Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Somalia, Amb. Mohammed Al-Budeiri, and the Director General of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (ICO), Mr. Mohamed Bamba, in a farewell ceremony today for conjoined Somali twin girls being flown to Saudi Arabia for urgent surgery.

The three-month-old twins, Rahmo Fiqi Sayid and Ramlo Fiqi Sayid, who were born at Somali Sudanese Hospital in Mogadishu, are conjoined at the lower abdomen and share a urinary system. Their treatment has been made possible through the support of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, which is facilitating the surgery in Saudi Arabia on behalf of the Kingdom’s government.

Minister of Health Dr. Ali Haji Aden expressed gratitude to the Saudi government and the King Salman Foundation for their humanitarian gesture, noting, “Today, we are here to bid farewell to these twin girls born conjoined, who are being taken abroad for a separation surgery. We thank the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for sponsoring this critical medical intervention.”

Ambassador Al-Makhzoumi also extended her appreciation to Saudi Arabia for covering the full medical costs, describing the act as a testament to the strong bilateral ties and continued support between the two nations.

Deputy Ambassador Al-Budeiri emphasized Saudi Arabia’s ongoing solidarity with Somalia, stating that highly qualified specialists are prepared to conduct the surgery and that the Kingdom hopes to welcome the twins back in good health.

This is not the first time the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has intervened to support Somali patients, previously arranging advanced medical care abroad for those in need.
