Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. General Bashiir Mohamed Jama, participated today in a high-level preparatory meeting on the UGBAAD Project, a major climate resilience initiative.

The session brought together key stakeholders, including the Minister of Agriculture, representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Green Climate Fund (GCF), ministers from Federal Member States, and Director Generals from the ministries of environment and agriculture at both federal and state levels.

In his remarks, Minister Bashiir emphasized the urgent need for direct investment and support to reach Somali farmers, ensuring that climate funding delivers real impact to the communities it is meant to serve. He highlighted the project’s potential to boost agricultural productivity, protect ecosystems, and enhance the resilience of Somali communities facing the effects of climate change.

The Minister also expressed hope that the UGBAAD Project would become a tangible, impactful initiative, generating measurable improvements in the livelihoods of farmers and in the health of the environment.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitor and guide the implementation of the project, with the overarching goal of achieving set objectives and building a green, sustainable future for Somalia.
