Mogadishu, SONNA – The African Union (AU) has successfully concluded a four-day Technical Training Working Session focused on enhancing the capacity of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). The session aimed to strengthen AUSSOM’s operational effectiveness by finalizing a Statement of Unity Requirement (SUR), which outlines the personnel and equipment needs from Troop and Police Contributing Countries (T/PCCs).
The event brought together key representatives from the AU Commission, the Federal Government of Somalia, T/PCCs, AUSSOM senior leadership, the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), and international partners.
Brigadier General Billy Atwoki from the AU Commission’s Peace Support Operations Division (PSOD) and AUSSOM Force Commander Lieutenant General Sam Kavuma reaffirmed the AU’s unwavering commitment to Somalia’s peace, security, and stability.
Somalia’s Senior Defence Advisor, Jihan Abdullahi Hassan, highlighted the importance of aligning AUSSOM’s mission with Somalia’s national security vision, ensuring that the security transition remains on track.
The finalization of the SUR is a significant step in ensuring AUSSOM receives the necessary resources to effectively implement its mandate. The AU, in collaboration with Somalia and international partners, remains committed to supporting the country’s security sector reform and the gradual transfer of security responsibilities to Somali forces.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment to a stable and secure Somalia, reinforcing the collaboration between the AU, the Somali government, and its international partners.
