Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Somali National Army (SNA) is intensifying its operations against Al-Shabaab, driving the terrorists out of their caves and hideouts in the rural areas of Middle Shabelle. As our forces make decisive gains, the enemy, in a cowardly act of desperation, attempted a failed attack on the presidential convoy earlier today.
At approximately 10:32 AM, an explosion targeted the convoy in the Xamar-Jajab district of Mogadishu while the President was en route to join our troops on the frontlines in Hirshabelle for Iftar. The attack was thwarted, and the President safely arrived at his destination as planned.
This cowardly act, which resulted in the death and injury of innocent civilians, is a testament to Al-Shabaab’s growing desperation as they suffer continuous defeats at the hands of the Somali National Army. Security forces are conducting a thorough investigation, and further details on casualties will be provided in due course.
Our fight against these extremists will not waver. With the unity of our people and the support of our international partners, we will secure lasting peace and stability for Somalia.
