Kazan, Tatarstan (SONNA) – The Ambassador of Somalia to the Russian Federation, Mr. Mohamed A. Zubeyr, held a high-level meeting with the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mr. Rustam Minnikhanov, to discuss avenues for enhanced trade and cooperation between the two regions.
The meeting, which took place in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, focused on identifying mutually beneficial opportunities that could bolster economic and cultural ties between Tatarstan and Somalia. Tatarstan, a multi-ethnic and multicultural republic within the Russian Federation, is home to a significant Muslim population, with Muslims comprising 45% of its residents. The region is also one of the wealthiest and most economically dynamic in Russia, known for its robust industrial base, advanced technology sector, and rich cultural heritage.
President Rustam Minnikhanov welcomed the discussions and expressed his commitment to fostering closer ties with Somalia. He highlighted Tatarstan’s readiness to share its expertise in areas such as energy, agriculture, and education, which could support Somalia’s ongoing development efforts.
