Mogadishu, SONNA – The Kaaraan district administration and community have warmly welcomed the implementation of one-man, one-vote elections in Somalia. The move signals a strong desire for the capital, Mogadishu, to transition into a fully recognized regional administration.

The meeting, attended by key stakeholders, was graced by the presence of Abdiasis Osman Mohamed, the Deputy governor for Social Affairs and Awareness of the Banadir region. Deputy governor Abdiasis lauded the Kaaraan district administration and its residents for their enthusiastic readiness to participate in the upcoming direct elections. These elections are set to take place across Somalia, including local council elections, which aim to ensure the rights and representation of Mogadishu’s millions of residents.

Speaking at the event, Kaaraan District Commissioner Farah Addani Mohamed emphasized the importance of the one-man, one-vote system in fostering inclusivity and transparency in governance. He was joined by politicians, traditional elders, directors, women, youth representatives, and various community leaders, all of whom echoed their support for the initiative.

The gathering highlighted the collective aspiration of the Banadir region’s people to see their voices heard through a fair and democratic electoral process. Participants expressed optimism that the elections would pave the way for Mogadishu to achieve its goal of becoming a fully functional regional administration.

Commissioner Abdiasis commended the Kaaraan community for their proactive stance, stating, “The readiness of the Kaaraan district administration and its people to embrace this democratic process is a testament to their commitment to progress and good governance. This is a historic step toward ensuring that every citizen’s voice is counted.”

The event showed the growing momentum for democratic reforms in Somalia, with the Kaaraan district serving as a model for other regions to follow. As the country prepares for nationwide elections, the enthusiasm and unity displayed by the Kaaraan community offer a promising glimpse into Somalia’s democratic future.

SONNA will continue to provide updates on the electoral process and its impact on the nation’s political landscape.
