Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The delegation led by the Federal Government of Somalia’s Minister of Finance, H.E Bihi Iman Igeh, is currently in Riyadh for a pivotal conference with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Our primary goal is to advance Somalia’s economy and explore investment opportunities in our nation’s abundant natural resources. This gathering represents a significant step towards enhancing our financial landscape and fostering sustainable economic growth.
Minister Cige is joined by a diverse group of representatives from the Office of the President, the Prime Minister’s Office, and various ministries, including Finance, Planning, Oil, the Central Bank, the Financial Reporting Agency, the National Statistics Office, and the Auditor General’s Office.
This four-day conference will primarily review the progress made by the Somali government since the recent debt relief announcement. It aims to outline a strategic plan for economic development and discuss investment in developmental projects that could lead Somalia towards economic self-sufficiency.
In his opening remarks, Minister Cige elaborated on the Ministry of Finance’s efforts towards financial reform and the modernization of revenue sources, emphasizing that these initiatives are on track for achieving financial advancement.
The Minister also highlighted the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to transparency and financial improvement, expressing gratitude to the IMF and the World Bank for their collaborative support and technical assistance to Somalia’s financial institutions.
