Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Chairman of the National Commission for Refugees and Displaced Persons of Somalia, Ahmed Hussein Elmi, alongside the IGAD Representative for Somalia, inaugurated a conference in Mogadishu aimed at addressing the needs of refugees, internally displaced persons, returnees, and host communities.
The event saw participation from various government agencies and representatives from IGAD, focusing specifically on how to enhance job creation and improve the livelihoods of displaced individuals.
During the opening remarks, Chairman Cilmi emphasized that the conference would yield sustainable outcomes for refugees, displaced persons, returnees, and host communities. He highlighted the importance of skill development and job creation for vulnerable populations.
Mohamed Kaarshe, the IGAD representative for Somalia, reaffirmed IGAD’s commitment to supporting the Somali government in job creation initiatives. He praised the National Commission for Refugees and Displaced Persons for prioritizing sustainable solutions for displaced individuals.
The overarching goal of the conference is to strengthen awareness, review previous commitments, and enhance the Somali government’s support for job creation. Additionally, it aims to foster collaboration between governmental and private sector agencies working on sustainable solutions for refugees, internally displaced persons, returnees, and host communities.
