Mogadishu, (SONNA) — Somali National Army (SNA) forces have officially reopened the strategic road linking Mogadishu to Baidoa following days of clearance operations targeting Al-Shabaab terrorists.
Military officials confirmed that troops successfully secured the long-stretch route after removing militant elements that had been operating along the road, restoring a vital supply and transport corridor between the capital and the southwest regions.
Meanwhile, security forces have launched additional stabilization operations in Baidoa to ensure lasting security, following the removal of militia groups previously influenced by the former leadership of the Southwest regional administration.
During their entry into the city, SNA forces were received by residents alongside officials from the Federal Government of Somalia and members of Southwest State security forces who had earlier opposed abuses linked to the previous administration and its alleged ties with Al-Shabaab.
Hundreds of residents gathered across neighborhoods and surrounding areas of Baidoa to welcome the national forces, expressing relief and support following the removal of the militants and affiliated groups.
