Beledweyn, (SONNA) – The Somali National Army (SNA) has intensified its operations against Al-Shabaab terrorists in the Hiiraan region, achieving significant victories that have weakened the group’s grip on key areas.
Among the territories recently liberated from Al-Shabaab militants are Beero Yabaal, Bur Abooto, Eega Galmay, Jidcillaan, and Caddow Gurey, all located in the Hiiraan region. These strategic gains mark a critical step in the ongoing campaign to dismantle the group’s strongholds and restore stability to the region.
Colonel Abdullahi Omar, commander of the 27th Division of the Somali National Army, spoke to state media, confirming that the operations had neutralized several Al-Shabaab terrorists and destroyed key bases used by the group. “Our forces have delivered a decisive strike against the enemy, liberating vital areas and crippling their operational capabilities,” he stated.
In addition to the territorial gains, SNA forces seized a large cache of weapons and ammunition abandoned by the militants during their retreat. This seizure is expected to further degrade Al-Shabaab’s ability to regroup and launch counterattacks.
These operations are part of a broader, sustained effort by Somali security forces, supported by local and international partners, to eradicate Al-Shabaab’s influence and restore peace to regions long plagued by the group’s violence. The liberation of these areas is a significant milestone in the fight against terrorism and a testament to the resilience of the Somali people.
