Mogadishu, (SONNA) – An event advocating for one-person-one-vote elections, organized by H.E. Abdulkadir Mohamed Noor, the Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), was held in Mogadishu.

The gathering brought together officials from both houses of the federal government, representatives of the Banadir Regional Administration, civil society organizations, and hundreds of citizens who expressed their support for conducting direct elections in the country.

Speaking at the event, H.E. Abdulkadir Mohamed Noor emphasized that the Somali people are ready to elect their future leaders through their votes, marking a significant step towards strengthening democracy.

Meanwhile, H.E. Abdirahman Yusuf Sheikh (Al-Adala), the Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, highlighted the importance of empowering Somali youth to exercise their democratic rights, describing it as an opportunity for them to shape the nation’s future.

The event underscored the commitment of the Somali government and its citizens to establishing a more inclusive and participatory electoral process.
