Mombasa (SONNA) – Ms. Saadiya Mohamed Nur, Director of the Women’s Development Department in the Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development, has been elected as the Chairperson of the IGAD Women, Peace and Security Forum (IWPSF) in a significant development for regional gender equality and peace efforts. The election took place yesterday in Mombasa, Kenya.
The Somali Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development has praised the collaborative efforts of the newly formed leadership team, which includes Deputy Chairperson Ms. Amer Manyok Deng from South Sudan and Secretary Hon. Dora Byamukama from Uganda.
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and its member states continue to make concerted efforts to enhance peace and security across the region, with a particular focus on Sudan. The new leadership team is committed to advancing the Women, Peace and Security agenda, which aims to address the unique challenges faced by women in conflict and post-conflict settings and to ensure their full participation in peacebuilding processes.
