Kampala, SONNA – The Minister of Defense of Somalia, Mr. Abdiqadir Mohamed Noor, has provided comprehensive details about his recent tour of countries contributing troops to the African Union operation, as well as new nations set to join the initiative planned to commence in 2025.

Accompanied by the Commander of the Somali National Army, major General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhuddin, and officials from the Federal Government and the Somali National Army Command, Minister Noor embarked on this significant tour aimed at discussing regional security and the forthcoming African Union mission.

During a successful visit to Djibouti, Minister Noor engaged in in-depth discussions with Djiboutian officials regarding regional security and the new African Union mission. “Today we have successfully completed an official visit to the country of our brothers, Djibouti. It was an opportunity to discuss regional security and the new mission of the African Union starting in 2025,” he stated.

Currently in Uganda, Minister Noor is holding talks with Ugandan leaders to define their role in the new operation. His itinerary also includes visits to Burundi and Kenya, where he will explore how these countries can contribute to the new peacekeeping plan.

These crucial meetings follow the planned withdrawal of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and the implementation of the new African Union Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), which is set to replace ATMIS in 2025. Minister Noor’s tour underscores the collaborative efforts and strategic planning necessary to ensure the success of this new mission.

The Minister’s engagements highlight Somalia’s dedication to strengthening regional security and fostering international cooperation to address shared security challenges. The transition to AUSSOM is expected to enhance peacekeeping efforts and support Somalia’s stability and development.
