Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Somali Media Council (MCS), in collaboration with the UNSOM, launched a crucial training session today in Mogadishu aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of Somali journalists. This three-day program will benefit 35 journalists from various media centers across the country.

The acting chairman of the National Media Council, Mr. Mohamed Shiil Hassan, emphasized the significance of this training for the media community. “This initiative is crucial for the advancement of journalism in Somalia,” he stated.

The Director of Communication for Banaadir region Mr Abdirahman Wish, who was also present, expressed his gratitude to the Media Council for organizing the training. He highlighted the urgent need for media improvement and the promotion of responsible journalism in Somalia. “This training comes at a critical time. We must continue this momentum and extend such programs to all regions of the country,” he urged.

Mrs. Nacimo Ibrahim Yusuf, founder and manager of Marwo TV, which focuses on women’s issues in Somalia, praised the council for its efforts. “Today is a great day for Somalia. The dedication of the Somali Media Council to improving journalistic professionalism is commendable. I am particularly pleased to see a significant number of female journalists participating in this program,” she remarked.

The training was officially inaugurated by the Director General of the Ministry of Information of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Abdullahi Hayir. He emphasized the importance of the council’s work and encouraged journalists to make the most of this opportunity. “This council is vital for our country’s media landscape. I urge all journalists to take full advantage of this training,” he said.

This initiative marks a significant step towards fostering a more professional and responsible media environment in Somalia.
