Beijing, Somalia – Officials from the Somali Ministry of Fisheries have embarked on a 20-day training program in China. The program aims to enhance Somalia’s fishing capabilities and strengthen its marine resource management practices. The inauguration ceremony took place at the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center (FECC) of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA).

During the opening ceremony, Ambassador Awale Ali Kullane emphasized the critical role of the fishing industry in Somalia’s economic growth. He expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its ongoing support.

The training program focuses on equipping Somali fisheries officials with practical knowledge. Through visits to various locations across China, participants will gain firsthand exposure to Chinese fishing techniques and sustainable resource management practices.

Mrs. Ikraan Mohamed Abdullahi, Director of the Personnel Department at Somalia’s Ministry of Fisheries, expressed eagerness to participate. She believes that this opportunity will provide invaluable insights into water resource management.

Ms. Lin Huifang, Deputy Director General of FECC, reiterated China’s commitment to assisting Somalia. The program represents a significant step towards collaboration between the two nations in developing Somalia’s fisheries sector.

Scheduled from July 10th to July 30th, this comprehensive training program underscores the shared goal of sustainable marine resource utilization for economic prosperity and food security in Somalia.
